New Parent Support
Becoming a new parent is a time for excitement and joy as well as anxiety that can raise many questions and concerns. New Parent Support Home Visitation Program is a no-cost, voluntary program for military families who are expecting or have children under the age of three.
By utilizing the Nurturing Parenting Curriculum, we offer home visits that focus on the needs of infants and young children as well as prenatal health, nutrition, and breastfeeding. Our goal is to empower our families to meet the challenges of parenthood along with the unique obstacles of a military lifestyle. Raising a family in the military is not easy with added costs, moves, deployments, separation, and missing the support of family and friends back home. If you are feeling anxious, this is normal and you are NOT alone. New Parent Support Professionals are available to assist you.
Home visits will be guided by family needs. Expect fun and laughter! This is not a home inspection or the white glove test. If you already have children, your home visitor will probably show up with games, toys, or activities and spend a fair amount of time on the floor with you and your kids. If you are pregnant, the visit will focus on prenatal information from the first trimester to the birth including early infant care, available resources, and additional classes for preparing for your baby’s arrival.
After the birth of your child a few things you will learn include:
- Bonding with your baby
- PURPLE Crying
- Safe Sleep practices
- Developmental Milestones
- Age-appropriate developmental play
- Positive Discipline
- Infant Massage
- Breast Feeding Techniques
