EVERETT, Wash. – Jim Creek Navy Community Recreation Area never ceases to amaze crowds of eager patrons. June 9, 2018 was no exception at their annual Kids’ Fishing Derby from 8 am-5 pm at Twin Lakes, and their FREE Family Fun Day event from noon-4 pm at the Recreation Building and surrounding grounds.
Patrons started their adventure by traveling up to the Twin Lakes via one of the most scenic nature roads offered by Navy Getaways Destinations, featuring clear views of the Cascade Mountainside, Mount Three Fingers, and vast waves of Evergreen’s.
At the Twin Lakes, patrons checked-in to timeslots for guided fishing, picked up their poles, tackle, bate, and life vests, and then made their way to the dock. There, each youth participant spent 45 minutes out on the lake with expert coaching.
Meanwhile outside of the Recreation Building, families participated in a variety of free activities, including a BBQ with hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, and beverages, Live Action Role Playing Battles (LARPing) with jousting, an Activity Village with a Slip N’ Slide, Jumping Pillow, Cart Races, and crafts, and a special educational reptile meet & greet with Zoologist Dan Riggs featuring everyone’s favorite albino python, Chiquita.
Other activities included a guided MWR hike of the Wheeler Mountain Loop Trail, Alpine Tower free climb, Archery & Laser tag, and the Instant Photobooth.
The Kids’ Fishing Derby continues to be one of Jim Creek’s biggest events of the year. Special thanks to US Family Health Plan, Everett Realty-Karmin Pincus, and Navy Lodge for sponsoring this event. Also special thanks to the Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club for assisting in the Derby.
Since 2015, Jim Creek Navy Community Recreation Area has been surprising guests with unparalleled excitement through event programming, including Jim Creek’s FROZEN Celebration, the Wizarding World of Jim Creek, and their annual Kids’ Fishing Derby.
