Food Service Worker [4 vacancies]

Location: Naval Air Station Whidbey Island - Keglers Bar and Grill, Back Alley Bar

Pay Grade: NA-7408-02

This position is located in the Fleet and Family Readiness Division at Navy Region Northwest NAS Whidbey Island. Employee privileges include shopping privileges at the Navy Exchange, access to base facilities such as gyms, recreation centers, restaurants, and discount tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Brief Description of Duties: 

  • Incumbent will prepare and bake a variety of pizzas from prepared ingredients.
  • Performs tasks such as grilling hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, French fries, etc., by watching while the items are cooking, turning as required; regulating temperature and removing when done.
  • Incumbent duties may include packaging food for off-premise consumption or serves for on premise consumption.
  • Operatesand usesbake and holding ovens, pizza makers, slicers, fryers and miscellaneous kitchen utensils. Use of cash register and cash handling to include turning in change fund daily with receipts.
  • Maintain concept environment, equipment, utensils and surfaces in a sanitary clean and neat condition.
  • Incumbent responsibilities may include scraping and pre-rinsing dishes, glasses and flatware for washing. Separates food waste and trash. Loads dishes into the dishwasher; hand washes dishes. Stacks and stores clean dishes.
  • Scrapes, cleans, scrubs, washes or wipes ranges, ovens, fryers and urns. Cuts, scrapes, chops, dices or peels fruit and vegetables. Removes soiled dishes, glasses and flatware fromtables and carries to the dishwashing area. Cleans tables or paper, other trash or soiled linens and wipes clean tables.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be able to follow recipes and combine ingredients for plain or fancy salad and other cooked dishes.
  • Incumbent must have skillsto perform tasks with several steps and use judgment in the performance of sequential tasks.
  • Simple arithmetic and ability to read instructions as required.
  • A working knowledge of common sanitation procedures to prevent contaminationrequired.
  • Must be able to use simple kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Incumbent must be Knowledgeable and have theskills to relate inventory levels to purchasing requirements.
  • Incumbent mustunderstand food storage and sanitation requirements.
  • Must be able to operate a cash register.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful completion of National Agency Check (NACI) background check with written inquiries.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handler’s Certificate.
  • Must be able to use simple kitchen equipment and use common utensils.
  • Must be able to operate a cash register.
  • Must be able to follow food recipes and combine ingredients for pizza, salads, and other menu items.
  • Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays to support business needs and schedule will vary. Work involves light to moderate physical effort such as frequently lifting or moving objects weighing up to 30 pounds, constantly standing and walking, and occasionally lifting up to 45 pounds.
