Sports Coordinator
Location: Naval Base Kitsap Intramural Sports
Pay Grade: NF-0188-03

Summary of Duties: Incumbent will act as sports leader who administers, plan and organizes comprehensive sports programs and related special events to military community in Naval Base Kitsap. Organizes a comprehensive Captain’s Cup program, extramural and intramural sports program that coincides with higher level tournaments for the same sport within established agency policy and objectives. Coordinates use of the athletic facilities and equipment for scheduled play or special events. Promote sports programs and special events through marketing of publicity material and discussions with command representatives. Assigns work to 2-4 recreation assistants and seasonal employees, refers all personnel issues to the Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Manager. Arranges and conducts clinics for all intramural sports. Develops guidelines, bylaws and schedules for intramural league competition. Procures trophies, plaques, medals and other awards to winners and runner-ups, sportsmanship and valuable players. Coordinates championships in all sports from the intramural level to the NRNW Intramural Sports Conference championship level. Plans and organizes special events in area of responsibility and as assigned. Prepares and submits required reports. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Knowledge acquired through experience gained thru working in sports management field that enable incumbent to independently and effectively carry out the program. Knowledge of range and activities and services of participant’s interests and needs including methods and processes utilized in a typical and conventional sports program. Must be able to guide sports activities of individuals and groups with varying degrees of athletic skill and ability. Incumbent needs skill, tact, and resourcefulness to resolve disputes, sometimes physical, with display of patience, understanding and unbiased consideration during active sporting events. Ability to use computer software and technology to stay current with industry standards.
Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of National Agency (NACI) background check required. A valid state driver’s license with ability to operate a government vehicle. Work schedule typically occurs M-F 1200-2030, can include some weekends. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Work involves frequent walking, standing, and occasional lifting of objects not exceeding 50 pounds in weight. Work areas are adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Outdoor activities are subject to varying weather conditions and slippery or uneven surfaces.
