Summer Reading Program Kick-Off Party

Welcome to Summer Reading 2026! This year’s program theme is?"Plant a Seed, Read,"?which is rooted in the concept of farm to table. A farm grows food and plants that nourishes our bodies, a library grows ideas that nourish our mind. Food, plants, flowers and stories connect us to our family, culture, economy, and ecology. The idea of this theme looks at the library as a community table where, instead of food, we feast on ideas.

To kick-off the Summer Reading Program, we invite you to join us on Bangor at Trident Lakes. Bring the whole family to explore new outdoor hobbies, enjoy a scavenger hunt, participate in a circus interactive fun zone, eat cotton candy and learn more about our Summer Reading Program. We will also guide you through the process of signing up for the program and show you how to access the DoD MWR Library via the Libby app, giving you easy access to free ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines anytime!

Activities include:
  • Outdoor Recreation Hobby Tutorials: Learn how to geocache from the Washington State Geocache Association for prizes and go on a guided trail hike with Environmental to learn about plants and trees.

  • Activities on your own: Rock painting to add to your garden or NBK’s rock garden and a nature scavenger hunt with clues and prizes.

  • Entertainment: Experience a professional juggler and learn circus tricks in a teaching fun zone with juggling balls, spinning plates, gymnastic ribbons and more.  Plus, jump and slide in a bounce house combo!

  • Take-A-Ways for All: Face painting and cotton candy.

Registration in the Summer Reading Programs is not mandatory to participate but highly encouraged as this event is funded by the CNIC Library Summer Reading Program. Register in Beanstake to participate in the all-ages reading challenge and earn prizes. These challenges start May 25! All ages welcome.
