Motor Vehicle Operators

Location: Naval Base Kitsap Trips & Tours

Pay Grade: NA-5703-08

This position provides drivers for the Community Programs MWR passenger bus and other vehicles that may be used in support of the Trip and Tours program. Employee privileges include access to base facilities such as gyms, recreation centers, restaurants, and discount tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Summary of Duties: Applicant drives vehicles to various destinations as required to provide Trip and Tour services in support of the Trips and Tours mission. Operates oversized motor coaches on long-distance trips, which usually involve interstate and a combination of day and night driving. Longer trips present higher challenges for comfort and care of the passengers, including security and safety, meal stops, luggage handling etc. Must be able to perform operator maintenance on vehicles, which typically have an approximate GVW of more than 32,000 pounds. Will be required to operate passenger buses and vans of various sizes. Must possess skill in operating oversized vehicles carrying large groups of people for long periods of day and night driving in all conditions and circumstances and possess the knowledge and skill for "chaining up" vehicles. Must possess a valid state Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and CPR/First Aid Certification. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads with exposure to noise, exhaust fumes and vehicle vibration and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must be skilled in operating oversized vehicles carrying large groups of people for long periods of day and night driving in all conditions and circumstances. Skilled in “chaining up” vehicles, making judgments loading cargo, driving in inclement weather conditions. Skill and tact required to ensure customer satisfaction and resolve customer disputes.

Conditions of Employment: These positions are subject to background check and pre-employment drug screening. Incumbent must possess a valid state ‘CDL Class ‘B’ driver’s license with passenger endorsement, government driver’s licenses, first aid, and CPR certifications within the first 90 days of hire.
