Recreation Assistant (Outdoor Program)

Location: Naval Base Kitsap Outdoor Communinty Recreation

Pay Grade: NF-0189-02

This position provides quality customer service to all eligible patrons. Employee privileges include access to base facilities such as gyms, recreation centers, restaurants, and discount tickets to sporting and entertainment events.

Brief Description of Duties: Incumbent performs variety of duties in support of Morale, Welfare and Recreation Community Recreation program that includes special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, bowling, Library, grab-n-go , movies and outdoor recreation. The incumbent responsibilities includes demonstrating customer service while attending to front counter operations such as use of point of sale systems, collecting fees/cash handling associated with sale of rental items, accountable for accuracy of daily sales transactions, assisting customers with questions, complaints and suggestions. Responsibilities further entail the issuance of game equipment, general housekeeping and program support. Must be knowledgeable of outdoor recreation activities to be able to provide available information to patrons. Must be able to assists patrons in selecting and furthering their interests in outdoor activities. Conducts inventory, maintains inventory controls and maintains equipment for proper accountability of program equipment and resources. This is a flexible non-exempt position not to exceed 30 hours per week on a continuous basis. Employee works several facilities at NBK Bangor on an adjustable work schedule that will include; nights, weekends and holidays as well as regular day shift hours. Performs other related duties assigned.

Qualification Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license. Must be able to handle cash and operate a point of sale system. Must have general knowledge of outdoor recreation activities such as bicycling, camping, fishing, and skiing. Incumbent must be capable of driving a 15 passenger van. Ability to work independently. Individual must be responsible with a pleasant, courteous attitude who can communicate effectively with the public. A neat and clean appearance required. Incumbent will need to quickly acquire a basic knowledge of the rules and practices of the equipment used. Will need to collect and accurately record cash transactions, and operate a cash register. Completion of CPR, First Aid and AED training required within the first 90 days of appointment to position.

Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of National Agency Background (NACI) Check required. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors under varied weather conditions. This position is required to do considerable standing, bending, stooping, walking, pushing, climbing and lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
